Good afternoon!
After the week we have had, and with the news of being out of school for much longer, I wanted to take a minute to touch base with parents & guardians.
This morning, I emailed all students to let them know I will be available by appointment during our regular school day hours Monday - Friday. To schedule a check-in, students just need to send me an email and we’ll set something up from there. A reminder that if your child is experiencing a crisis or is in need of immediate assistance, please call the 24-hour Maine crisis hotline at 1-888-568-1112 to be connected to your local crisis center.
Also in my email, I let students know I will be sending out an email each morning, sort of like the morning announcements if we were still in school. The topics will be Mindful Mondays, Talk Tuesdays, Wellness Wednesdays, Thankful Thursdays, and Fabulous Fridays, so feel free to ask your child about them, starting tomorrow!
I will also be sending parents & guardians specifically an email once a week on Wednesdays with resources that come across my (virtual) desk. I’ve included a few links today at the end of this email.
Lastly, we are able to keep our Friday food bag program going, via home delivery, while we are out of school - so if you find yourself in need, please send me an email and we will be happy to get you into the program. This applies to all families, regardless of income and regardless of free/reduced lunch status.
Have a great rest of your weekend.
Best,
Tara Kierstead
Concern about coronavirus can make both children and families anxious. Here are some resources for communicating with your child about COVID-19 and how to help cope with stress you may be experiencing:
