Goooooooood morning!
Social distancing. We know it's important. We know why we need to do it. We also know it stinks to not be able to have your friends over, and it stinks to not be able to go on trips, and it stinks to not be able to go visit your older family members.
So - how are you taking care of yourself during this time? How are you turning what stinks into something emotionally manageable for yourself? How are you staying connected while also keeping your distance?
Check out this article I found that actually talks TO you, not ABOUT you here:
https://www.unicef.org/coronavirus/how-teenagers-can-protect-their-mental-health-during-coronavirus-covid-19
Ms. Kierstead's Key Take-aways From This Article:
1. If you're feeling anxious about COVID-19, limit how much time you're watching the news and reading articles people share on Facebook (I am a grown adult and I've had to work really hard on this one!)
2. If you have the time and resources, taking this time to "focus on you" would be great! Learn something you've always wanted to learn, read that book you've been wanting to read for months, etc.
3. Your feelings are valid and they matter, so be kind to yourself during this time!
Ms. Kierstead's Bonus Tips On Ways To Connect During This Time:
*Facetime with your friends and relatives you can't go visit in person
*Host a Zoom meeting with a bunch of your friends or family at the same time
*Host a Netflix Party (it's a new fancy pants thing you can learn about here: https://www.netflixparty.com/)
*Actually sit down and hand write a letter to a friend or family member and actually mail it to them! They will love it!
*Actually call someone instead of texting them (bonus points if you call an older family member, because I bet it will make their day!)
*If you are a middle school student: start, share, and stick to Mr. Soule's fitness activity log - because it allows you to connect with others AND feel better (and, I know of some middle school staff that are also participating!)
Have an awesome day!!!
